His obituary states his birth as Apr 5 1938. However, a birth date of Apr 5 1937 is reflected in his birth record and was also given at the time of his marriage. The original entry in the handwritten birth record, entered on Jun 9 1937, reflected that James Leroy Cottrill was born on Apr 5 1937, a son of Arch Cottrill and Pearl Sutton, the mother's 14th child, of which 12 were still living. But a second handwritten entry later on the same ledger page reflected that James LeRoy Cottrill was born on Apr 5 1938, same parents. The second entry, filed on May 19 1953 by "Mrs. Pearl Cottrill (Mother)," was subsequently lined out as a means to void the entry. - [S14] Obituary.
