- A 1946 graduate of Glenville High School, she earned a B.A. degree from Glenville State College in 1949. She was employed as a teacher of reading, English and science in St. Mary's County, MD, and later in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties, MD. She continued her career in Lexington, KY, where she earned a Rank I standing in Educational Psychology from the Untiversity of Kentucky. In 1976-77, she was a visiting graduate student at LaTrobe University, Melbourne, Australia. After her retirement in 1985, she remained active in community activities and local educational programs, and was also a frequent contributor to newspapers in Ritchie and Gilmer Counties.
At a program held at the Doddridge County Park on October 12, 2019, Hattie and her husband Everett Leggett were posthumously honored as Doddridge County Citizens of the Year. [1]
