- James W. Jett was a former employee and later owner of the West Union Transfer Co. For several years he operated the Henderson and Holland farms in Doddridge County, and he was the West Union Chief of Police from 1964 to 1969. He was a former employee of the West Virginia Department of Highways, retiring in 1989 as the Doddridge County road supervisor. He was a former member of the West Union Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, and was active in local athletics, coaching boys basketball teams at Middle Island and West Union grade schools. He was a 3-year U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving 18 months in the Pacific. He was also noted for his active involvement in the recovery efforts of the Doddridge County Flood of 1950. [2]
