  Notes	In 1834, Martin Sommerville's father, Robert, was the first settler at Bone Creek, near Auburn in Ritchie County. The creek took its name from a bone lick there. Robert's father, James Simmeral, as the name was originally until corrupted through some errors, came from Cork, Ireland, via Delaware and Maryland to Harrison County, Virginia, where Robert was born on May 1, 1800.   Notes	Martin and Susan Gaston Sommerville "made their pioneer settlement on the Town Hall Farm below Auburn, and after a brief stay there, they removed to Otterslide, where they lived and died on the farm that fell heir to their son, Robert C. Sommerville, and his heirs." "Ritchie County in History and Romance," p. 309, reports that Martin and Susan had a daughter Elizabeth, who married a Netz (probably intended to be Nitz). But Elizabeth does not appear in any census, and no other record of her has been found. 1850 Census, Ritchie Co, Virginia (now West Virginia), enumerated on Aug 29 1850: Martin Sommerville, 22, farmer; Susan, 21.
