- Records show that Peter Wilt was hospitalized at least twice while serving with the Confederate Army. In Dec 1862, he was hospitalized in Richmond for smallpox. In May 1863 he was hospitalized in Danville, Virginia for treatment of a wound (not clear whether combat-related). On 28 Nov 1864, he deserted his Confederate unit and turned himself in to Union forces in or near Mineral County. On 29 Nov 1864, he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released.
