She studied piano and related subjects in the School of Music at West Virginia University and was awarded a teacher's certificate, one of two degrees given at that time. She also attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Md., where she was a piano pupil of the noted Ernest Hutchinson. In addition to being an accompanist in frequent demand, she was a well known organist in the Clarksburg area, and although completely self taught, attained an enviable reputation in that field.
