Her several nicknames included Mellie, Millie and Nellie. Her name appears on her headstone as Millie P. Flint. A record of their marriage has not been found. Because they were the same age and had similar names (Amelia, Permelia), some researchers have experienced confusion between Ursher's two wives.
1930 Census, Harrison County, WV (Coal District), enumerated on Apr 14 1930:
Usher [sic] Flint, 33, electrician in coal mine, age 21 at time of first marriage; wife Nellie, 30, age 29 at first marriage; son John, 10.
NOTE: Son John would be the same child who was listed as Ursher Jr, age 3 months, in the 1920 Census. As in 1920, the next enumerated household was that of Ursher's parents and family.
1940 Census, Marion County, WV (City of Fairmont), enumerated on Apr 6 1940 at 1119 Chamberlain Ave:
U. D. Flint, 42, maintenance foreman for coal company; wife Mellie, 40; stepson [sic] Ursher Jr, 20, carpenter for coal company; dau Joyce Ann, 6; son Jackie O, 5.
NOTE: The household member providing the information to the enumerator was Mellie, who indicated Ursher Jr's relationship to herself rather than to the head of household.
