News item, Clarksburg Telegram, Friday, May 23 1902, in its entirety:

      E. GRIFFIN TAYLOR
      E. G. Taylor, of Morgansville, Doddridge County, who is a candidate for the Republican nomination for the state senate, served his county in the legislature three terms. He did not seek the nomination for the first two terms. He has friends in this county who will doubtless give him their support.
Mr. Taylor was in the mercantile business fifteen years. He has been a successful farmer about fifteen years. His friends say he is a friend of agricultural and labor interests, and, if nominated and elected, will do all he can along those lines.
Mr. Taylor says the report circulated at the beginning of the campaign that he was a friend of Caldwell for the United States Senate is groundless.
Mr. Taylor respectfully asks the voters, and especially farmers and laborers, to remember him at the primary.

News item, Clarksburg Telegram, Friday, May 16 1902, in its entirety:

Hons. George C. Cole, of Lewis County, and E. G. Taylor, of Doddridge County, both candidates for the Republican nomination for the state senatorship in this district, visited Clarksburg this week to look after their political fences. They both have warm friends in this county and both have had experience in the legislature. Mr. Cole is a brilliant lawyer and a talented debater. Mr. Taylor is a successful farmer of prominenct in this county. Mr. Cole is possibly more widely known in this county and has very strong endorsements. His opponent, while not so widely known, also has warm supporters in Harrison. The more aggressive of the two will likely capture the delegation. Cole's friends are claiming the county and nomination for him. Taylor's friends are sanguine of his success. Either would make a good representative.
