    Notes 
    • Born four years after the assassination of President Lincoln, Boston Corbett Britton was apparently named for Thomas P. "Boston" Corbett, the Union soldier who shot and killed Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth. After moving to Boston and joining the Methodist Episcopal Church, Thomas Corbett changed his given name to Boston, the name of the city where he was converted.
