- His obituary, in the January 16, 1920 issue of the Moberly Evening Democrat, paints a sad picture of his final few years:
"Augustus Jennings died Wednesday morning at Mineral Springs, Tex. Deceased was sixty years old. He formerly lived in Moberly and went from there to California. He was living in San Francisco at the time of the [1906] earthquake and fire. The shock to his nervous system in passing through the experience of that calamity brought on a nervous trouble that caused locomotor ataxia and he had been an invalid since that time. He removed to MineraI Springs, which is a health resort, for the benefit of the waters there."
