Mar/Apr 1863, company muster roll, at West Union, Va guarding company property. Mustered-in as Private in Co. M, 6th W.Va. Infantry, 29 Aug 1864, Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia, 6'1", blue eyes, dark hair, and dark complexion. Substitute for Joseph Cheuvront before the draft. Company muster-out Co. M, 6th W.Va. Infantry, 1 Dec 1864, Grafton, Taylor County, West Virginia. Transferred to Co. O, 6th W.Va. Infantry, 26 Dec 1864, by virtue of Special Order #72 to consolidate companies M and O. Sick in US Gen Hosp in Grafton since Apr 23 with conjunctivitis, 23 Apr 1865, on Mar/Apr 1865 Company Muster Roll. Mustered-out by telegraph instruction from the War Department, 3 May 1865, US General Hospital, Grafton, Taylor County, West Virginia.
NOTE: As of February 2017, the Civil War medal issued for Marshall Allen had never been claimed and was in storage at the West Virginia State Archives in Charleston.
