| Notes |
- Stephen Kile's birth date is widely reported to be as early as 1785, probably based on a misreading of his age in his death record. That handwritten entry actually states his age as 80, which would put his birth in about 1790, conforming to his stated age in the 1860 Census. However, the ages of both him and his wife in the 1860 Census were twenty years older than in the 1850 Census, rather than the expected ten. The older age is also reflected in his death record. Findagrave reports his birth date as a plausible 1797, but the basis for that is not clear, as his headstone has only his death date. A summary of his reported age at various times shows the younger age to be more likely:
1830 Census, age 30-39, born between 1791 and 1800
1840 Census, age 30-39, born between 1801 and 1810
1850 Census, age 50, born about 1800
1860 Census, age 71, born about 1789
June 1870 death record, age 80, born about 1790
