      Following the death of his first wife, Sarah, in childbirth in May 1877, Thomas Lees returned to England, where he married Elizabeth. She had previously been married to a Buttersworth, by whom she had a son Samuel. (Per Thomas Lees' granddaughter, Elizabeth Lees Brown, who was named in her honor.)
