CHICKEN THEFT CHARGE
With a Clarksburg man and his two sons in jail awaiting grand jury action on chicken them charges, Corp. Lyle Powell continued this investigation into what he said has been "a wholesale theft of chickens in several counties."
The men in jail are J. Rollo Hennings, 51, of the Union Heights section, Clarksburg, and his sons Newton, 23, and Rollo Jr., 16.
Hennings is in the Harrison County jail at Clarksburg, and his sons are in the West Union jail. They have been unable to furnish $2,500 bond each, required by Magistrate D. J. Cunningham, when they were arraigned last week for stealing 37 chickens, the entire flock of Alden Spencer, high school teacher, on December 22.
Corp. Powell said several chicken theft cases have been reported in Doddridge, Harrison and Ritchie counties.
Powell said he arrested Hennings and his sons when he found them repairing a tire on their car while on the way to Clarksburg, and said "we may be able to connect Hennings and his sons with other chicken theft cases in this and nearby counties. Our investigation is far from complete."
Hennings, the officer said, is under parole from the State Penitentiary at Moundsville; Newton recently was released from the prison after serving a five year term; and Junior recently was released from the Ritchie County jail, where he had been held for stealing a dog.
