Skow of this city and Miss Dora Hammond of Wymore were married at Lincoln yesterday by Rev. Roy Mareen Badger, formerly pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church here. After a brief wedding trip, the young couple will return and make their home in this city. The bride is a talented musician and until recently was violinist with the Gilbert theatre orchestra. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Hammond, old residents of Wymore, and since returning to that place has been playing violin with Burnham's orchestra there. The groom is a son of Mrs. J. J. Skow of 1100 Market Street and is at the head of Skow's Auto Tire Repair shop, Seventh and Court streets. He served overseas with the Eighty-eighth Division, going to France from Camp Dodge, Ia. Upon his arrival there, he attended an officers' school and was later commissioned a lieutenant. Since his return home, he has devoted his entire time to his auto business in company with his brother, Will. | 23609 | Wes Cochran's "Doddridge County Deaths" lists the death of "Juhette Hildman" on Jun 6 1909. Undated and partly illegible obituary clipping states that she died June 6th at age 44 years, illegible months, 25 days. Husband's obituary in 1921 states that she died in "about 1907," but that would put her birth in 1862, three years before her documented birth. An age of 44y6m25d at death on Jun 6 1910 would calculate to a birthdate of Nov 12 1865, just one day off from what was documented. This is the basis for the death date given here as Jun 6 1910. A death date of Jun 15 1907 was reported by nephew John W. Hart in a W. Guy Tetrick family information survey completed in 1931. Meanwhile, Doddridge County death records (DR Bk 2, p. 64) list a "Juliette Hildman," age 50, married, who died at Summers on June 6, 1909 of TB. Virginia was soon adopted by Aldridge C. Kidd and Amie Cunningham Boyce Kidd, who raised her in Harrison County. Virginia married Alfred Gaston in 1945. They had daughter Patricia in 1946, son Robert in 1947, and daughter Linda in 1949. The record of Virginia's second remarriage in 1964 states that she and Alfred had divorced on 16 May 1964. He stated that he was born in St. Clara on September 2, 1892, and that he was a current resident of St. Clara. But he filed his registration with a Lewis County draft board, possibly because of the location of his employment. He gave his occupation as an oil field laborer for the South Penn Oil Co. in Fink District No. 2. He was single, had no dependents, and did not claim exemption from the draft for any reason. His physical description was entered as medium height and build, dark blue eyes, dark brown hair, and slightly bald. Slater two years later, but her daughters were apparently not taken into the new household. None of them were with her and her new family in the 1900 Census. Daughter Sarah Mae was listed as a servant in the household of a young family in Wetzel County. Daughter Carrie was living in the household of an elderly distant relative and his new wife. The whereabouts of daughter Ruth Gay in the 1900 Census could not be determined, but she had apparently married in late 1899 using the name Ola Bates. Sarah Mae and Carrie married in 1903 and 1905 respectively. | 23648 | While Ephraim W. Bee was away fighting in the Civil War, his wife "Ingaby was at their Roane County home taking care of the farm and the children. One cold February morning, the feared Jones Raiders (Confederate Army Troops detached to destroy railroad bridges, cut telegraph lines, and gather livestock and supplies for the Confederate Army) swooped upon the farm. The Raiders gleaned the farm of all blankets, food and livestock, with the exception of one sick old horse. As the bed covering was ripped from the bed, baby McClellan was thrown across the room and crippled for life. Ingaby knew she was left with no means to survive the harsh winter and bravely wrapped her children in what rags were left, put them on the old nag, and walked from Roane County to Doddridge County, where her husband's family lived." | 23650 | While growing up in Clarksburg and Maple Lake, he was active in swimming and diving events. He was the last surviving member of the Maple Lake Aquacade of 1941. A great supporter of the youth of Clarksburg, he was a charter member of the Stealey Recreational Center, where he and others built and grew the membership. BG was the organizer and also coach (along with his friend John Routa) of the Stealey Swim Team. As the area swim teams started to develop, Mr. Gaston and the Board of Directors of Stealey Pool initiated the first annual Stealey Invitational Swim Meet, which is still going strong 50 years later. He also started, along with Katherine Williams, the Tri-County Swimming Association, which consisted of Harrison, Upshur and Marion counties. He will be remembered by the youth of Harrison County as the first "starter" at the swim meets dressed in white. Bill also coached youth church league basketball teams and also coached the Washington Irving Varsity Cheerleaders in gymnastic skills. Many of the youth from Stealey Pool will remember his diving exhibitions with John Routa and his brother, Jim Gaston. He was an excellent diver, gymnast and athlete. In 1969, Mr. Gaston was awarded the Clarksburg Jaycees Physical Fitness Leader of the Year. He went on to be the West Virginia Physical Fitness Leader and was one of 12 National Physical Fitness Leaders. He won a trip to Washington, D.C. to receive his award; his guide for the week was astronaut James Lovell of Apollo 13.
