    The headstone for Mary J. Perine gives dates only as the years 1856 and 1932. That birth year conflicts with the Mar 25 1857 birthdate stated in her birth record. Her birth has also been reported as Mar 25 1855, basis for which is not known and which nonetheless conflicts with her birth record. Some researchers report her middle name spelled Jain, basis not specified. Her birth record identifies her only as Jane Fleming.

    According to family members, Mary Garrison apparently never married the father of her children, but it is accepted that he was George Cottrell. However, Findagrave reports that the father of her daughter Cora Garrison was Edgar Davis. Mary's headstone reads "Mary E., dau. of A. & M. Garrison."
