Event Notes Note (1) For fifty-two years he was an employee of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company at Grafton. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and the Baltimore and Ohio Veterans' Association. Mr. Rose was one of the pioneers of the railway industry in Grafton. He rode on the first train to Parkersburg that ever had air brakes as an equipment. For thirty-seven years he was baggage master on one turn on the Parkersburg branch of the Monongah division and he worked this turn until he retired. He was connected with the construction crew that built the railroad tunnels between Grafton and Parkersburg, working his way from a construction man to brakeman, and then on to his final work, that of baggage master. He was one of the most trustworthy of the railroad's employees and he holds a record of missing only eight days in eleven years of service. He was one of the first five men on this division to receive merit badges for twenty-five years continuous service.
