(2) Minnie Kendall Lowther, Ritchie County in History and Romance (McClain Publishing Co, Parsons, WV, 1990). "John Cain, as the first settler where Pullman now stands, steps into the picture with a new identity, from the John Cain of our former book. He was born in Harrison County in 1778, just one year earlier than the other John Cain, and he was married to Miss Nancy White in 1796, the same year that his brother David was married to Mary Cain. Nancy White was born in 1783, and we do not know where they died, we are confident that they rest in Ritchie County. They had children Booth, Charity, Jesse, John, and doubtless others." (NOTE: The children's names reported here are exactly the same as those of the John Cain (b. 1779) who married Nancy Hickman, spent much of his life in Ritchie and Wirt counties, and whose family is reported on p. 295 of this same book. Other than this reference, we have found no evidence of the family of John Cain and Nancy White. The possibility cannot be discounted that they are the same John Cain, although the author Minnie Kendall Lowther is clear in delineating a difference.), p. 294.
