NOTE: Wife's stated residence in Pleasants County is questionable, as neither she nor her family were found there before or after this marriage. Reason for wife being identified as Saphronia Fox, rather than Powell, is not known. Saphrona appeared with the family of Benjamin & Mary Ann Powell in the 1850 and 1860 censuses, while the family of Seber & Charlotte Fox had no daughter in those censuses who could be her. Safrona's death record identifies her parents as Benjamin Powell & Mary Ann Lawson. In the absence of evidence of another scenario, we can only speculate that the marriage was an elopement, and in addition to overstating her age by four years, Safrona provided a fictitious name and parents to disguise her identity.
