She was head of household with five of her Bogard children: Matilda, Eliza, Abraham, Jessy J, and Ruth. Note (2) While some records have a death date of Sep 4 1864, most of John R. Bogard's military records indicate that he died on Sep 5 1864. Note (3) He was captured by rebels at Greenland Gap, Hampshire/Hardy Co., W. Va., on April 25, 1863. He was part of a prisoners exchange at Harrisburg, Pa., July 28, 1863, and sent back to his regiment. But he later straggled and was recaptured at Cloyds Mountain, Virginia, on May 9, 1864. He died of scorbutus (scurvy) as a prisoner at the Andersonville Prison in Andersonville, Georgia, on Sept. 5, 1864, and is buried in the Andersonville National Cemetery. Note (4) Findagrave reports birth date as Sep 1 1830. But age 24 in the 1850 Census puts it in about 1826, age 37 in 1860 puts it in about 1823, and age 49 in 1870 puts it in about 1821. Age 67y 11m 6d on headstone calculates to a birth date of Oct 20 1824. Note (5) Age 29 in her May 1861 death record puts her birth in about 1832, consistent with her age 19 in the 1850 Census putting it in about 1831. Conflicting with those records is her age 26 in the 1860 Census, which would put her birth in about 1834. The double-S spelling of her name is consistent in all records.
