family.  Marital status married, but wife was not present with him.
Note (3) Along with his son William, listed as a boarder, occupation sawmill worker,
in the household of his sister & brother-in-law Mary & Marmaduke Cowan.  His
marital status was married, but his wife was not present.
Note (4) He was one of ten Doddridge County Civil War veterans who traveled to
Gettysburg in June 1913 to attend the 50th Anniversary observance of the Battle
of Gettysburg.
Note (5) Birthplace given in marriage record as Doddridge County, but in 1850 Census
as Ohio.
Note (6) Not with family in 1880 Census.  In the 1900 Census, Rosie Vannort, widow,
age not given, born in WVa, mother of 2 children (both still living), was listed
as a head of household in Wheeling, Ohio County, WV.  Also in the household was
her son Clarence Vannort, 22, b. Sep 1877 in WVa, single, occupation boss in
blast furnace.  (Note:  Marriage and death records indicate Clarence's birth
date as Sep 15 1870.)  In 1910, she listed as Rosie Vannort, 60, widowed, living
alone.  On Mar 11 1915, Rosanna Vannort filed for a widow's pension on the basis
of John Vannort's Civil War service.
