Note (2) His military records show provide the following details of his service: He enrolled 28 July 1862 in West Union for 3 years, and he mustered in as a Private 23 Aug 1862 at Wheeling. He served in Co A, 14th W.Va. Inf, under Jacob Smith. He was captured by Rebels on 25 Apr 1863. He died on 17 Apr 1864 in Webster, Taylor County, WV of an injury sustained by an axe wound to the leg (near the shin) while building a shelter on 13 Apr 1864 while in the service of the United States Military. His wife received a widow's pension and his son, Waitman T Willey Davis, received a minor's pension after his mother remarried. Eastburn Davis was born on Trough Fork on Middle Island Creek, and his wife was born on Buckeye Fork of Middle Island Creek. Their son Waitman T. Willey Davis was certified as being born 9 Nov 1862 by himself, his mother and various other testators, including T.K. Knight and C.J. Stuart.
