Event Notes Note (1) Although no marker or record of his burial has been found, it is presumed that William Sutton Davis is buried in the same cemetery as his daughter Harriet, who died in the same tornado that took his own life. Note (2) "Davis - The Settlers of Salem West Virginia," p. 57, reports birth date as Jan 13 1811. But headstone shows it as Jan 13 1810. Note (3) Death date shown on headstone as Mar 13 1886, but obituary indicates Mar 15 1886. Note (4) Age 6 on headstone would put birth in about 1831. But "Davis - The Settlers of Salem WV," p. 57, reports birth date as Oct 14 1828. Note (5) Death date on her weathered headstone could be June 1 or June 4. "Davis - The Settlers of Salem WV," p. 57, reports it as June 4, 1837. This contradicts Hardesty's assertion that the tornado that took down the SDB Church and killed Harriet Davis and her father occurred on June 3, 1833.
