- Local news item in the West Union Herald of Thursday, June 22 1911:
"Our good friend, H. K. Hewitt, owner of the Greenwood flouring mill and a store at Greenwood, has added to his business investmant the stock of goods of F. J. Dotson, one of Greenwood's leading merchants. This gives Henry a very nice business proposition. He has our best wishes."
Item in the Doddridge County Republican of Friday, Oct 30 1914:
"Mr. Voter:
"Since the dog tax was voted down, we have had an increase in the dog population in our district, at least one hundred percent, and also a corresponding decrease in sheep, owing to the said dogs.
"Shall this ratio continue or shall we re-instate the dog tax?
"On account of the energy of the friends of the canine family, and the oversight and neglect of the sheep-raiser, the tax was defeated two years ago, but let us not forget that we now have a chance to amend our laws this fall by a direct vote. Let us help our poor friends who keep a half-dozen dogs by eliminating part of them; and also help sheep growers by protecting their flocks.
"An X in front of "dog tax" on your ticket will do it. Don't forget to vote.
"Very truly yours,
H. K. HEWITT,
Greenwood, West Va."
