    • Birthplace given as Ritchie County in 1894 marriage record, but as Doddridge County in 1905 marriage record. "Davis - The Settlers of Salem, West Virginia," p. 101, reports birth date as Sep 30 1871, while his death record shows it as Sep 30 1870 and his headstone is also 1870. The 1870 Census of his family, enumerated on Jul 12 1870, lists "(Not Named) Davis", male, age 8 months, birth month September. But since Ernest was listed as age 8 in the 1880 Census, the unnamed child was apparently another one who died in the interim. We have found no records to support or disprove that analysis.
