    • According to the Company Descriptive Book of Co A, 14th W.Va. Infantry, George W. Husk enlisted in West Union on Jul 1 1863 for a term of three years. His age was 20, birthplace Monongalia County, occupation farmer. His physical description was 6'1" in height, with dark complexion, hair and eyes. Chronological entries were as follows: In Nov 1863, he was absent from duty, being sick in a hospital at Petersburg, W.Va. On May 9 1864, he was a "loss" in the Battle of Cloyd Mountain. An entry for Apr 1865 indicates that he was a "loss," date not known, and that he died at a "Rebel Prison."

      Company Muster Rolls of Co A, 14th W.Va. Inf Regiment, dated May/Jun, Jul/Aug, Sep/Oct and Nov/Dec 1864, pertaining to Pvt George W. Husk, show his status as "Absent," with a notation stating "Straggled & captured May 9 1864. Due U.S. for ordnance $21.46."

      A Company Muster-Out Roll of Co A, 14th W.Va. Inf Regiment, located at Cumberland, Maryland, dated Jun 27 1865, pertaining to Pvt George W. Husk, age 18 (sic), states "Died while in the hands of Rebels - date not known - Captured at Cloyd Mts, Va., May 9 1864." A notation states "Investigation fail to elicit further information."

      A U.S. War Department document of the Adjutant General Office, dated Aug 4 1877, states that George W. Husk, Co A, 14th W.Va. Inf, "died Oct 20 1864 in rebel prison Savannah Ga. of scurvy."

      A U.S. War Department document of the Adjutant General Office, dated Jun 15 1886, pertaining to George W. Husk, Co A, 14th W.Va. Inf, states "The charge of straggling May 9 1864 is removed. He was captured by the enemy at Cloyd Mountain W.Va. while in line of duty."

      (Note: The specific Confederate prison where he died is not clear. We have not found a record of his burial.)
