"Pfc. Chester C. Thomas, age 32, was born at Blue, Tyler County, W. Va., the son of the late Obie Thomas and Leota Elizabeth Thomas. He entered the United States Army on Nov. 5th, 1942, received his military training at Camp Carson, Colorado, leaving there one year later for maneuvers in the deserts of Louisianna and California for five months. He then went to the port of embarkation at Fort George Meade, Md., leaving the U.S. on May 30th. He was in foreign service for two months, when the War Dept. sent a telegram to his brother Allen D. Thomas of Big Flint that he was killed in action in France on August 9th, 1944. He was in the infantry.
"Pfc. Thomas was single. His brother received the Purple Heart on Dec. 14th, 1944. Before he entered the service, he was employed by a lumber dealer. Besides the above named brother, he is survived by a brother S/Sgt Burl O. Thomas, U.S. Army Air Corps, two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle McKinney and Mrs. Audra Hayes."
