- Mary Edith was a member and past deacon of the Salem Baptist Church, as well as a member of the Woofter/Broadwater Sunday School Class and the American Baptist Women. She also taught Sunday School for many years at the Church.
She was the first Mother Advisor of Salem Assembly 49, International Order of Rainbow for Girls and was a recipient of the Grand Cross of Color. She was a member and Past Matron of Orpha Chapter 30, Order of the Eastern Star, and served in many capacities within the organization. She was a member of the Queen Ester Chapter 11, Order of the Eastern Star in Clarksburg.
She was a member and past president of the Salem Garden Club and past president of the Harrison County Garden Council. She was a member and past Regent of the Colonel William Lowther Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and served as the Northern District Treasurer. She was a member and past president of the Salem Lioness Club. She and her husband were honored to be selected as the Senior King and Queen and Marshal of the Salem Apple Butter Festival.
In 1932, Mary Edith became the first female member of the Salem Volunteer Fire Department. She and her husband were founding members of the Upper Valley Street Association.
