- During his military service in World War II, Lt. Preston L. Holden was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating as a pilot i aerial flights in the New Guinea area. He took part in more than fifty missions, dropping supplies and transporting troops over territory which was continually patrolled by enemy fighter aircraft. Often landings were made on fields which were only a few miles from Japanese bases. [6]
