Note (1) The adult female was possibly James' Goodwin's first wife, rather than Ann Dotson, who he married in 1848. However, one of the daughters in this census would be Angeline (b. Nov 1839), who identified her parents in her marriage record as James & Ann Goodwin. Her sister Rulana, one year younger, also identified her parents as James & Ann Goodwin in her marriage record.
Note (2) Based on other households included in this enumeration, the location was clearly in present-day Doddridge County.

James Goodin [sic], 38, laborer; Ann, 29, cannot read/write; Angaline, 12; Rulany, 10; Richard, 8; Margaret V, 5; Edward M, 4; Elizabeth M, 3; Mary E, 3; James W, 8 months. All born in Virginia.
1860 Census, Doddridge County, Virginia (now West Virginia), enumerated on July 24, 1860:
Ann Goodwin, 40, was living alone. No one appearing to be a relative of hers is found in any nearby household.
James Goodwin was not found in this or any subsequent census. This was also the last record found pertaining to Ann. [3, 4]
