- Obituary stated that "Corporal Boyd Haynes Jones, 24, an aviation gunner who was expected to go overseas for duty, was killed in Muroc, California, in combat training." The community of Muroc no longer exists, and the former Muroc Army Air Field has since been incorporated into present-day Edwards Air Force Base. His father's obituary stated only that he had been killed in plane crash in World War II.
