    • Killed instantly in action on Jun 1 1944 near Cisterna di Littoria (now Latina), Italy, when a shell landed only a few feet from him while he was carrying ammunition to his squad through heavy enemy artillery and mortar fire. Previously, he had taken part in five major battles and for four days was a prisoner of the enemy before making his escape and finding his way back to his company. [2]
