- There has been some confusion regarding the identity of John F. Boyce's wife Mary Jane. The record documenting issuance of their marriage license identifies her as Mary J. Lowerey, age 21, daughter of Nancy Lowerey (father not given). But their marriage record the next day identifies her as Mary J. Lowry, daughter of Mary Lowry. The inscription on her headstone clearly states that she was a daughter of Nancey Lowery. But the death record of John & Mary's daughter Fanny Boyce Sadler identifies Fanny's parents as John F. Boyce and Mary Jane Lowther. Adding to the confusion, the death record of their son James Robert Boyce identifies his father as John F. Boyce and his mother only by the maiden name Divers. The birth record of son Lee identifies his parents as John & Jane Boyce. We have found no death record for Mary Jane (Lowery) Boyce, and it is still not entirely clear who her parents were. Based on the sketchy information available to this point, she was quite possibly born out of wedlock to Nancy Lowery.
