This would also correspond to his age 2yr 7mo given in the 1920 Census, enumerated in January, which also lists his 2-month-old sister Nadine. The 1930 Census gives his age as 12, while his Army enlistment records shows his birth as in or about 1918. But his obituary states his birth date as 27 Oct 1919, in Blandville. So while his exact birth date is still not entirely clear, the preponderance of the evidence points to October 1917. The original entry in the handwritten birth record, entered on Jun 9 1937, reflected that James Leroy Cottrill was born on Apr 5 1937, a son of Arch Cottrill and Pearl Sutton, the mother's 14th child, of which 12 were still living. But a second handwritten entry later on the same ledger page reflected that James LeRoy Cottrill was born on Apr 5 1938, same parents. The second entry, filed on May 19 1953 by "Mrs. Pearl Cottrill (Mother)," was subsequently lined out as a means to void the entry. BR Bk 4, p. 214. Event Notes Note (1) Obituary gives birth date as Sep 9 1894, with age at death in Mar 1974 being 79, which would be correct. Death record also has birth date as Sep 9 1894, and age 17 given at time of June 1912 marriage would also put her Sepember birth in 1894. But SSDI gives her birth date Sep 9 1892, her birth record also states Sep 9 1892, and her headstone reads 1893. Note (2) Headstone reads: Pearl H. Cottrill. Note (3) Obituary states birth date as Jul 4 1931, but SSDI shows it as Jul 4 1930. Note (4) Husband's obituary states marriage date as Nov 15 1951, but marriage record shows it to be Nov 15 1952.
