Event Notes Note (1) In 1860, in household of James M. & Mary (Williams) Robinson. Note (2) Military records show that Samuel Richards enlisted in Co A, 14th W.Va. Infantry, on 28 July 1862 in West Union. His description was 5'8-1/4", fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, occupation farmer. He mustered in as a Private on 23 Aug 1862 in Wheeling. On 25 Apr 1863, he was captured by Rebels at Greenland Gap. On 1 Jan 1864, he was listed as sick in hospital in Grafton, WVa, and on 29 March 1864 he was given a 20-day furlough from that hospital. Not returning from furlough as scheduled, he was charged with desertion on 22 April 1864. On 15 Sep 1865, the charge of desertion was dropped from his record and he received an honorable discharge. Note (3) Death date of Apr 30 1876 appearing in some sources was actually her marriage date. Note (4) Age 32y 10m 9d at time of death would put birth at Jun-30-1882. But headstone shows birth date as Jul 30 1883.
