the deceased as E. Hess, female, age 39, married, b. at Blandville, died Jan 10 1896 at Blandville, cause of death 
consumption, buried Jan 11 1896 at Blandville, undertaker R. Harshbarger, West Union.  (2) DR p. 54 identifies the 
deceased as Eliza Hess, 39, dau of Richard & J. Bland, wife of Peter Hess, died Feb 19 1897 in Blandville, cause of 
death consumption, informant Peter Hess, husband.  While the first entry appears to have been made soon after the death, 
the second entry is found in an alphabetical listing apparently made some time later.  The headstone for Lizar M. Hess, 
wife of Peter Hess, at the Blandville Cemetery shows her date of death as Jan 10 
1896.

Note (1) Birth date given in death record as Jun 1 1852.  But he was age 2 months in
the 1850 Census, enumerated on Jul 13 1850.
Note (2) In 1920, in household of daughter & son-in-law Beulah & Luther
Perine.
Note (3) Engraving of name on headstone appears to read "LIZAR M HESS."  The name of
her husband, Peter Hess, appears on the opposite side of the monument.
Note (4) Birth date given in 1900 Census as Sep 1877.  But her birth record shows it
as Sep 20 1875.  She was age 5 in the 1880 Census.
Note (5) Death date in death record filed by the undertaker is Apr 4 1906.  But her
daughter Stella's birth record, filed by the physician, indicates a birth date
of Apr 9 1906.  Unclear where the error lies.
Note (6) Birth date given in 1880 Census as June 1879, but in 1900 Census as July
1879.
Note (7) Obituary appearing in the West Union Herald of Thursday, Jan 17 1957, stated
that he died "at 3 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, ..."  But death record reports date of
death as Jan 13 1957.
Note (8) Husband's obituary gives marriage date of Dec 14 1914, but marriage record
states Dec 24 1914.
Note (9) Age 12y 2m 9d at time of death calculates to a birth date of Jan 25 1894. 
But her birth date in the 1900 Census was given as April 1894.
