"Avery Pierce, son of J.W Pierce, and Miss Edith Jones, daughter of Mrs. Anna B. Jones, both of West Union, W.Va., 
evaded their friends on Christmas evening, got aboard an east-bournd train, and landed at Cumberland, Md., where they 
were quietly united in marriage at the Maryland Hotel, on December 26th, 1923.  They returned to West Union on No. 11, 
on Thursday following, and are now at home in their home city."
