Note (1) Son Alonzo's entry in both the 1920 and 1930 Census states his father's
birthplace as New York.  But other references indicate Ohio, and a genealogy
prepared by an immediate descendant specifies Alexander Cummings Gaston's
birthplace as "1-1/2 miles west of Oberlin, Ohio."
