Note (2) DOUGLAS STUART KILLED Was a Brother of Mrs. Millard Snider of This City. Sunday morning about two or three o'clock the eastbound express train ran over and killed Douglas Stuart at West Union. From the remarks made by the deceased a few hours before his death, it is thought by some he was bent on self-destruction. However, he and some others had been drinking heavily during the evening and the presumption is his death was directly due to that. His feet were cut off and his head and shoulders were practically severed from the body. The scene of the accident was close to his home. Near the west end of the bridge crossing Middle Island creek is found the first evidence of the accident. The bulk of the remains was found beyond the east end of the bridge, showing that the train was going at its usual high rate of speed. No one saw the accident unless from the engine which struck him. The train did not stop to investigate the result of the collision, and the body was not discovered until a half hour or more afterwards. The deceased leaves a wife and small child, one brother and three sisters, viz: W. S. Stuart, the well known lawyer, Mrs. G. W. Farr, Mrs. B. H. Maulsby, and Mrs. M. F. Snider, of this city.
