Daily Sentinel," Friday, January 3, 1902, in its entirety: THREE MEN SCALDED TO DEATH Ran a Mile from the Scene of a Boiler Explosion and Then Died PARKERSBURG, W.VA., Jan 3 -- The boiler in the South Penn Oil Co. pumping station at Harry Rhodens, Doddridge County, blew up, scalding to death Harry Rhoden, a pumper for the company, Merrick Frick, who ran a string of well cleaning drills, and Dell Ash, his assistant. The men were all in the boiler house warming themselves when the explosion occurred. They broke open the door, which had become locked, and escaped to another house a mile away. All were scalded so badly that after reaching the other boiler house, they collapsed, and in a few hours all were dead. (7) Birth record of daughter.
