Married Apr 30 1867 in Pleasants County. NOTE: Wife's stated residence in Pleasants County is questionable, as neither she nor her family were found there before or after this marriage. Reason for wife being identified as Saphronia Fox, rather than Powell, is not known. Saphrona appeared with the family of Benjamin & Mary Ann Powell in the 1850 and 1860 censuses, while the family of Seber & Charlotte Fox had no daughter in those censuses who could be her. Safrona's death record identifies her parents as Benjamin Powell & Mary Ann Lawson. In the absence of evidence of another scenario, we can only speculate that the marriage was an elopement, and in addition to overstating her age by four years, Safrona provided a fictitious name and parents to disguise her identity. Event Notes Note (1) Although Lida (Pinell) Vincent appears with her family in the 1880 Census of Doddridge County, the Federal Census Mortality Schedule for that year indicates that she had died the previous November. Each of the U.S. Federal Censuses from 1850-1880 included a mortality schedule enumerating the individuals who had died in the year previous to the census year. In addition, each individual is linked to the census image on which they appear. [Ancestry.com] Note (2) Age 19 in marriage record would put birth in about 1838. Note (3) Listed as L. Jane Pinell, 26, in household of her parents. Marital status not given. Also in the household were Rachel A. Ash and Virginia C. Ash. Note (4) Listed as Mary A. Ash, 76, widow, in household of daughter & son-in-law, Alice & Samuel Spencer, and their family. Note (5) Birth date on headstone is 1844. But the 1900 Census shows it as March 1847, and age 4 in the 1850 Census puts it in about 1846. Note (6) Birth date is given in death record as Apr 20 1850, which corresponds to the 1900 Census and date on headstone. But age 8 in the 1860 Census, and age 28 in the 1880 Census, would put birth in about 1852. Note (7) Age in 1886 marriage record stated as 23 as of Apr 7 1886, putting birth date at Apr 7 1863. But the 1860/1870/1880 censuses indicate a birth year of about 1856/58, while the 1900 Census states Apr 1858, and age 59y 8m 6d in death record corresponds to a birth date of Mar 9 1857. Note (8) Age in marriage record would put birth in about 1865. Note (9) Age 25 in 1900 marriage record would put birth in about 1875, while age 4 in 1870 Census puts it in about 1866.
