Event Notes Note (1) Reports of (Samuel) Lemon Dotson being buried in the Buck Run (Dotson) Cemetery near Pennsboro (Co Rd 74/9) in Ritchie County are incorrect. Although his first wife Dorcas Ellen Ferrebee is buried there, he is not. Rather, he is buried in the Underwood Cemetery near Ashley in Doddridge County, as is his second wife, Rachel Underwood. While Lemon Dotson's name is clearly engraved on the top of the beveled monument, Rachel's name is faintly engraved on one of its sides. Note (2) In 1880, Samuel H. Smith, 25, school teacher, single, was a boarder in their household. Note (3) The 26th Regiment, Virginia Cavalry, CSA, was formed in December 1864 by consolidating the 46th and 47th Battalions Virginia Cavalry. The unit served in W. L. Jackson's Brigade and was active in various conflicts in the Shenandoah Valley. It was disbanded during the spring of 1865. Lieutenant Colonel Joseph K. Kesler and Major Henry D. Ruffner were in command. Note (4) Both Rebecca & sister Ruth were age 12 in 1880 Census, with Rebecca listed first.
