"A most distressing accident occurred at Smithton (now Smithburg) on Monday which resulted in the death of Capt. F. M. 
F. Smith of that place.  He was struck by the westbound freight train & was horribly mangled.  Capt. Smith had lived at 
Smithton, the village that took its name from him, for nearly 50 years. 
"His wife, who died a few years ago, was the daughter of the late Matthew Neely.  He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. 
J. V. Blair & Miss Georgia Smith.", 2/19/1997.
