Note (7) Although the headstone for George Washington Squires shows his death date as 1940, his obituary, appearing in the Jan 3 1940 edition of the Weston Independent, reports his death as occurring "Friday morning at a local hospital." That Friday would have been Dec 29 1939. Lewis County death records also show his death date as Dec 29 1939, so the headstone is clearly in error. It is noteworthy that his headstone is one that appears to have been put in place many years after his death and is shared with his wife and two of their children.
