But age 44 in 1870 Census puts it in about 1826, while age 26 in 1850 and age 56 in 1880 puts it in about 1824. Age at death on headstone puts birth date at Jun 2 1824. Note (2) Although other researchers report her death date as Aug 18 1898, and her headstone also bears the death year 1898, Rebecca Nutter Miller of Oxford is shown on the 1890 Veterans Survey in Southwest District of Doddridge County as being the widow of Civil War veteran Andrew Miller. Military records also show that she filed for a widow's pension on Aug 4 1888, two weeks after Andrew's death. We have found no death record for her. Note (3) Birth date given in 1900 Census as March 1856, but headstone shows it as March 10, 1855. Note (4) Delila Miller Lipscomb crossed the railroad tracks to get a bucket of water. As she crossed the Northwestern Turnpike near the tracks, she was run over by a runaway horse. A train was coming around the cut, so she was probably distracted by the train. The horse had been frightened by the train.
