    • According to Don Norman and Stella & Elizabeth Cottrill's "Descendants of John Jacob Richards," following Arnold Richards' August 1782 death at the hand of Indians, his "daughters were bound in court to a Thomas McCann March 19, 1787, in Harrison County, VA. The girls chose Robert Lowther as their guardian." However, Harrison County Minute Book 1784-1792, p. 319, 20 May 1788 contains the following entry pertaining to his daughter Sudna: "Ordered That Sudney Richards be bound to Isaac Richards untill she arrive to full age, she being twelve years of age the 24th day of March last."

      Regarding the death of Sudna's father Arnold, the following is found in Corliss Fitz Randolph’s "A History of the Seventh Day Baptists in West Virginia":
      "Dr. Bee further states that he himself remembers an old lady by the name of Childers, nee Richards, of Meat House Fork, saying that she stood on a stump and saw the Indians scalp her father."
