LAST LETTER FROM LINDEN L. GAIN
This letter was the last one I received from Linden L. Gain at home. He died of wounds received in action Sept. 30, 1918.
Somewhere in France
Sept. 25, 1918
Dear Mother and all --
Will write you a few lines today. This leaves me well and hope you are all the same. This is a right pretty day, only the wind blows cold. If Nellie or Guy don't know why I don't write to them, you tell them I thought they might not be at home and I know you would want to hear from me, but I will write them.
I might not have a chance to write any more for a few days, so if you do not hear from me as soon as you think you ought, don't be uneasy about me. I will write as often as I can, but there are times when we can not write, but if I can I will write again in a day or two.
I wrote Lucy a letter last week and was going to write to Louie, but I didn't have time, but I am going to write to her as soon as I have time, and I will write to Claud and Bertha when I have time, but I can't write to them all at once. My address is Co D, 119th Inf, 30th Division, A.E.F.
I see Burt every few days. He is well. I don't know when he wrote to them last, but you can tell them he was well when I wrote this letter.
Has Oris got "Teddie" broke to ride? I don't expect any of you have had time to bother with him this summer, but if nothing unexpected happens, I will be there I think next summer to ride him. Tell Oris if he gathers those chestnuts for me to save them for me till I come home. Tell him I only want a few; he can eat the rest and if the chestnuts are all gone when I come home, we will eat candy together.
Who is going to teach school this winter, or are you going to have any school this winter?
Has Mr. Douglas moved to his farm or is he going to it this fall? Who did he have working for him this summer, and who did Everett have working for him this summer?
Well, this will be all for this time; will write again as soon as I have time. All of you take care of yourselves and write and tell me all the news.
From Lind,
By by to mama and all.
