    Notes
    • News article, "West Union Record," Thursday, Dec 23 1915, in its entirety:
SUSPENSION BRIDGE IS BEING ERECTED AT GLASS FACTORY
The Doddridge County Glass company is erecting a bridge across Middle Island Creek from the factory over to the pike, so that the employees may go to and from their work without having to cross the railroad bridge. The most of the timber is on the ground and part of the heavy timbers have been put in place.

News article, "West Union Record," Thursday, Dec 23 1915, in its entirety:
MANY PEOPLE COMPLAIN OF BOARD WALK JUST OUTSIDE OF TOWN ON BLOCK HOUSE HILL
During the last few muddy days, many complaints have been heard from people living up the pike beyond Block House Hill, of the bad condition of the board walks, or lack of board walks just outside the corporation limits on Block House hill. There is a space for about 100 feet, where the boards are few and far between.
It has been stated that as soon as the Doddridge Window Glass company's bridge is completed, the glass company will see that the board walk is repaired. There are a number of school children who have to come in over this place every day, and last week for several days the mud was almost impassable.

Local news item, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, Jan 6 1916, in its entirety:
"J. P. Davisson has just completed a big foot bridge for the Doddridge Window Glass factory, that is quite a convenience to many of the employees, rendering it possible for them to reach town without crossing the railroad bridges as heretofore."

Local news item, "West Union Record," Thursday, Jan 13 1916, in its entirety:
"Contractor J. P. Davisson has just completed the foot bridge for the Doddridge Window Glass factory, which makes it possible for the employees to go to and from their work without crossing the railroad bridge. This is quite a convenience. It is understood that as soon as the weather will permit, the walk from the bridge to the pavement on Block House hill will be put in first class condition."

Excerpt from biographical sketch of Lathrop Russell Charter Jr, "The History of West Virginia, Old and New, Vol. III," 1923, p. 644:
"For over twenty years he has been identified with banking in Doddridge County. He became cashier of the newly organized Doddridge County Bank at West Union, and has been in the service of that institution, of which he is now president. Mr. Charter is a Republican in polities, and has been a loyal citizen in every phase of the development of West Union.":
