	David R. Finley enrolled for duty at West Union, Doddridge County, on Aug 14 1862. He mustered in as a Corporal in Co A, 14th W.Va. Inf, at Wheeling on Aug 23 1862. His death occurred at a U.S. hospital in Cumberland, Maryland on Nov 27 1862. Most of his records state the cause of his death as typhoid fever, although pneumonia is also sometimes indicated, presumably as a contributing rather than primary cause.

	David R. Finley's burial place is not known for certain. The diary of Flavius Josephus Ashburn (1832-1912) states that he was in attendance at David Finley's funeral service at Little Flint, Doddridge County, in April 1863. One of the few cemeteries at Little Flint is the McReynolds Family Cemetery. David Finley is known to have been a surveyor for Richard McReynolds.
