    Notes 
    • The Maxwells were early settlers in what is now Lewis Co, WV. They acquired large tracts of land there, as well as in Harrison and Doddridge Counties, including the Nutter farm on Hughes River. Williams and Lydia Vannort Maxwell lived on Lick Run in Doddridge Co, where each of their ten children inherited a farm. Daughter Mary's farm remained in her family until the 1970s. Williams Maxwell was a Republican who served in the West Virginia State Legislature. [6]
